Faceted Media: The “Unicorns of Marketing” for Small Businesses and Solopreneurs

In today’s digital world, every business knows it needs digital marketing, but very few founders have the time, expertise, or team to do it all well.

Between websites, SEO, content, social media, and tech, it’s easy to feel like you need five different agencies just to stay visible online.

Faceted Media exists to solve that problem.

Based in Denver, Colorado and serving clients virtually across the United States, Faceted Media is a boutique marketing agency built for small businesses, solopreneurs, and public figures who want thoughtful strategy and done‑for‑you implementation in one place. They call themselves the “unicorns of marketing” for a reason: they bridge the gap between big‑picture consulting and hands‑on execution, offering a true one‑stop shop for modern digital marketing.

This article takes you behind the scenes of who Faceted Media is, what they do, and how they approach marketing differently from traditional agencies.

Who Is Faceted Media?

Faceted Media, LLC is a boutique marketing agency founded and led by Kimberly Hogate in Denver, Colorado. Over more than a decade, the agency has grown from a solo venture into a small but mighty team serving clients nationwide.

From the start, Faceted Media has focused on being lean, agile, and highly personal. Instead of trying to be everything to everyone, the agency has carved out a clear role:

  • Work directly with solopreneurs, founders, and small business owners
  • Offer strategic guidance and execution under one roof
  • Build long‑term partnerships where marketing is aligned with real business goals

Rather than specializing in just one channel—like only SEO, only social media, or only website design—Faceted Media looks at how all of those pieces fit together. The agency name says it all: every brand has many “facets,” and each one needs attention if you want a strong, consistent presence online.

A One‑Stop Marketing Shop

A big part of Faceted Media’s appeal is that clients don’t have to juggle multiple vendors. The agency offers a suite of services that cover nearly everything a small business needs to show up professionally and effectively online.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

For many clients, SEO is where the conversation starts. If your ideal customers can’t find you in search results, everything else becomes an uphill battle.

Faceted Media’s SEO work typically includes:

  • Website audits to identify technical issues, gaps, and quick wins
  • On‑page optimization for key pages and blog posts
  • Keyword research and mapping to target the right topics and search terms
  • Content recommendations (and, often, done‑for‑you writing) to build a stronger search presence over time

Instead of chasing gimmicks or short‑lived tricks, the team focuses on practical, sustainable SEO that integrates tightly with a brand’s messaging and content strategy.

Content Creation

Content is the backbone of modern marketing, and Faceted Media treats it as such.

The agency helps clients:

  • Develop blog strategies that support both SEO and thought leadership
  • Write website copy that’s clear, compelling, and on‑brand
  • Create email campaigns and nurture sequences that keep audiences engaged
  • Repurpose content across formats and channels so clients get more mileage out of what they’re already creating

Because the team works closely with each business over time, they get to know the brand voice and audience deeply. That familiarity translates into content that feels natural and aligned with the founder or company, not generic or templated.

Social Media Marketing & Management

For many small businesses, social media is where their audience spends time—but it’s also one of the first tasks to slip when things get busy.

Faceted Media helps by:

  • Clarifying which platforms actually matter for each client
  • Creating content calendars that reflect the brand’s goals and personality
  • Designing posts, writing captions, and scheduling content
  • Providing engagement and community‑building support where appropriate

The goal isn’t just to post for posting’s sake. It’s to use social media as a strategic channel that supports visibility, trust, and conversion, without overwhelming the business owner.

Website Design & Tech

A strong digital marketing strategy falls flat if it sends people to a slow, confusing, or outdated website. That’s why Faceted Media also handles:

  • New website builds and redesigns
  • Layout and UX improvements that make sites easier to navigate
  • Performance tweaks to improve speed and mobile responsiveness
  • Basic integrations and tech setups that connect websites to email marketing, analytics, and more

By handling design, content, and tech together, the agency can ensure that a client’s online presence is cohesive—from the first click on a search result to the final “Book Now” or “Contact Us” action.

Business Coaching & Consulting

One of the qualities that sets Faceted Media apart is its emphasis on strategy and coaching, not just deliverables.

Many clients come to the agency at a crossroads:

  • They’ve grown mostly through word of mouth and are ready to be more proactive.
  • They know they “should” be doing more with SEO, email, or social media but don’t know where to start.
  • They’re spinning up new offers, programs, or services and need help positioning and launching them.

Through ongoing consulting and coaching, Faceted Media helps business owners:

  • Clarify their offers and messaging
  • Prioritize which marketing levers to pull first
  • Create simple, realistic plans that fit real‑world capacity
  • Understand critical metrics and performance indicators

This blend of consulting and execution is what turns the agency into a true partner rather than just a vendor.

How Faceted Media Works With Clients

Because of its boutique size and hands‑on style, Faceted Media doesn’t operate like a high‑volume, churn‑and‑burn agency. Instead, the team typically builds long‑term relationships with a smaller number of clients at a time.

Here’s what that usually looks like.

1. Discovery and Deep Dive

Every engagement begins with a discovery process that goes beyond a basic intake form.

The team digs into:

  • The business’s history and current stage
  • The audience and ideal customers
  • Existing marketing efforts and what’s working (or not)
  • Goals for the next 6–12 months

This isn’t just about collecting data; it’s about understanding how the business actually operates and what role marketing needs to play.

2. Strategy and Prioritization

Next, Faceted Media turns that understanding into a realistic strategy.

That may include:

  • A clear breakdown of channels to focus on (SEO, content, social, email, website, etc.)
  • phased plan that recognizes budgets and timeframes
  • Identification of quick wins versus longer‑term plays

Because many clients are small or founder‑led, the strategy is tailored to what they can actually execute and sustain—either with the agency’s help or internally.

3. Implementation and Ongoing Support

Once a plan is agreed on, Faceted Media rolls up its sleeves.

The team may:

  • Optimize existing website pages
  • Build or redesign a website
  • Create content and social media posts
  • Set up email campaigns and simple funnels
  • Monitor performance and adjust based on results

Regular check‑ins and reports keep clients informed and help them stay connected to the bigger picture, even when they’re busy running the rest of the business.

Who Faceted Media Is For

Faceted Media is designed for clients who want close collaboration and personal attention, not a massive agency experience.

Typical clients include:

  • Solopreneurs who are growing beyond DIY marketing and need structure and support
  • Small business owners who have outgrown their initial website or brand and are ready to level up
  • Consultants, coaches, and service providers who rely on online visibility to book clients
  • Public figures and personal brands who want a clearer, more professional digital presence

What these clients have in common is a desire to:

  • Work closely with a team that understands their business
  • Get marketing off their plate without losing control
  • See measurable progress over time, not just activity for activity’s sake

Because the agency is intentionally small, it can be selective about who it works with, focusing on partnerships that feel like a mutual fit.

A Boutique Culture With a Big Impact on Clients

On the inside, Faceted Media operates with a culture that reflects the kind of experience it offers to clients: personal, flexible, and relationship‑driven.

A few core characteristics define the team:

  • Collaboration: Even with a lean structure, the agency encourages regular communication and cross‑pollination of ideas. A content decision might influence website layout; a social media insight might shape an SEO strategy.
  • Curiosity: Marketing changes fast, and staying effective means staying curious. Team members keep up with best practices, experiment with new tools, and share their learning.
  • Ownership: With a small team, every person’s work is visible and meaningful. That sense of ownership leads to high accountability and a real investment in client success.

From a client’s perspective, this translates into consistent contact with real humans who know their business, rather than a revolving door of account managers.

Why Agencies Like Faceted Media Matter Today

In an age where algorithms, automation, and templates dominate, it’s tempting to think that marketing can be fully “set and forget.” But for most small businesses, that simply isn’t true.

They need:

  • Strategy that’s specific to their market, goals, and offer
  • Messaging that sounds like them—not generic corporate speak
  • Systems that are right‑sized for their bandwidth and budget

This is where a boutique, full‑service agency like Faceted Media shines. The team sits in the sweet spot between:

  • DIY (where the founder is doing everything, usually late at night)
  • Freelancers (who often handle one piece of the puzzle, like design or copy)
  • Large agencies (which may be overkill in terms of scope and cost for a smaller business)

By offering strategy, implementation, and ongoing support tailored to each client, Faceted Media becomes a long‑term partner in growth—not just a short‑term project vendor.

Getting Started With Faceted Media

For business owners curious about working with Faceted Media, the first step is usually a conversation.

That might look like:

  1. Initial Inquiry
A founder or marketing lead reaches out, often with a specific need in mind: a new website, better SEO, help with content, or “we need a clearer marketing plan.”
  2. Consultation or Discovery Call
The agency uses this time to understand the business, its goals, and whether there’s a good mutual fit. This is also a chance for potential clients to ask questions about process, timelines, and investment.
  3. Proposal and Plan
If both sides agree there’s alignment, Faceted Media presents a recommended scope of work and phased priorities, so clients can see what will happen first and how the relationship might evolve over time.

From there, the team takes the lead on turning strategy into action, while keeping the client looped in and empowered to make informed decisions.

Final Thoughts: Unicorns are Independent, Rarely Seen or Heard, and Magic as F$@#

Faceted Media isn’t trying to be the biggest agency on the block. Instead, it focuses on being the right partner for business owners who want thoughtful strategy, creative execution, and a team that genuinely cares about the brands it supports.

With services spanning SEO, content, social media, website design, and business consulting, the agency lives up to its “unicorns of marketing” nickname—balancing left‑brain analytics with right‑brain creativity, and big‑picture planning with roll‑up‑your‑sleeves implementation.

For solopreneurs, small businesses, and public figures who are ready to look and perform like the established brands they aspire to be, working with a boutique agency like Faceted Media can be the missing piece that brings all the facets of their marketing together.

Our agency likes to be very low-key. We are experts in our field and create awesome content! And we do it in a way that doesn’t bother you too much. We minimize meetings and use screen shares and videos to show you what we mean when it comes to technical or hard to explain topics. Also, we don’t talk down to you. We encourage you! We don’t take things personally. Don’t like our work, no problem, we can adjust anything!! (Because we’re magical as f$@#).

Time is all we have! Get your freedom back and contact us at Faceted Media. We can’t wait to meet you.

You are amazing. (Yes, just like a magical unicorn.)

About the Author: Kimberly Hogate, Owner, Faceted Media

Faceted Media truly began in the early 90’s when Kimberly Hogate was about 5 years old and recorded a “radio show” on her Little Tykes cassette player. The show does survive to this day, so we are going to get that digitized some day here. After that, she moved on to analog video editing (two VHS’s connected together), editing family home videos and adding modern touches (like her brother holding up 5 star reviews of the footage!).

Yes, it began young. Not knowing how these strange skills would apply in the “real world,” Kimberly took many years to realize that she was a rare breed that needed to take all this creativity and left-brained statistical thirst and create a creative digital marketing agency. In the “olden days’ she would have make signs, essentially. Yet today, “sign-making” means knowing SEO, many different computer programs, graphic design, an understanding of design, color and fonts, sales philosophy, and major problem-solving skills. The company got its name from being multifaceted in all areas of modern day “sign making.” Inquires, click here.
