If you’re just starting up your business, you might be overwhelmed by the depth of tasks you need to perform.

Let’s name a few:

  • Pick your business name
  • Make sure said name is available
  • File your LLC
  • Get your business bank account set up
  • Create your Operating Agreement
  • Buy a domain

And, please STOP THERE.

Because everything you read online that tells you doing this stuff yourself is easy and free or cheap…is wrong. It’s just wrong. I’m sorry, but if you got his way, it truly is the long road to China.

Want to hear some of my rookie mistakes?

  • Spending time on terrible prospects and saying yes to almost anything
  • Not knowing the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org
  • Falling behind on getting email captures and autoresponders set up to create dialog
  • Thinking SEO was something that high-level HTML coders put in the backend of your site

If most of what I’ve written so far is still a foreign language to you, please, if it’s important to you, get set up the right way in the first place. Don’t fall for Wix or Squarespace… While they might be easy to set up, the lack of functionality puts you on a non-compete level compared to a version of website platform called a content management system, or, essentially, WordPress.

Another thing that start-ups do is put too much on paper or in their mind. If you are not a doer, turn around and start working on your resume. It may sound harsh, but the start-ups that succeed are the ones that are curious, resilient, open, genuine and disciplined. While dreaming is certainly part of the entrepreneur blueprint, if you spend too much time planning and developing, you may never start. And, by the time you start, your idea could be stale. This is for people who know what they want, can handle the roller coaster and are ready to experience the ultimate freedom of entrepreneurship.

Calling all freedom seekers.

Okay, enough of all that. If you’re still reading, you must be someone that cares enough to go through what you know isn’t a walk in the park. Trust me though, once you get through the first couple years, the freedom is something you’ll never, ever let go. It’s incredible to never have to drive in traffic if you don’t want to. Doctor’s appointments? Make them whenever. Travel?

You’re the boss. Just imagine….
